Baron Trump's Marvellous Underground Journey
Ingersoll Lockwood's 1893 boys' fantasy, the second of his Baron Trump books. Little Baron Trump's dog Bulger is out of sorts — the village dogs are too familiar and the house cats too presumptuous — so the pair set out again, this time for the World Within a World described in a mouldering manuscript by the learned Don Fum. Their road runs through Petersburg and Archangel to Ilitch, where a treacherous teamster named Ivan nearly ends the journey early, and then up into the mountains to the Giants' Well, down its terraces, and into the funnel that leads to the underground world and its strange peoples.
