Jack and Jill and Old Dame Gill
A chapbook of 1806, printed in London by J. Aldis, that takes the two familiar verses of Jack and Jill and keeps going. Jack breaks his crown and Jill comes tumbling after; Dame Gill plasters his nob with vinegar and brown paper; Jill grins at the paper plaster and is put in a fool's cap for laughing at her brother's disaster. From there the pair, the dog Ball and the pig work through a run of tumbles, tellings-off and revenges, each with its own woodcut, until everyone is dancing a jig. Read it who will, the title page promises, they'll laugh their fill.
