The Courtship, Marriage, and Pic-Nic Dinner of Cock Robin & Jenny Wren: With the Death and Burial of Poor Cock Robin
A sixpenny picture book from Dean and Munday of Threadneedle-Street, embellished with thirty coloured engravings. In the first half Robin promises Jenny Wren pies, puddings and currant wine if she will be his; she consents, the Rook officiates with the Lark as clerk, the Goldfinch gives the bride away, and every bird of the air contributes something to the wedding feast. The second half is the older and darker rhyme it was always bound with — the death and burial of poor Cock Robin, shot with the Sparrow's bow and arrow, and mourned by the whole parish of birds.
