The Remarkable Adventures of an Old Woman and Her Pig: An Ancient Tale in a Modern Dress
An ancient tale in a modern dress, printed in London by Grant and Griffith with coloured engravings, retelling the old cumulative story in rhyming couplets. A little old woman sweeping her chambers finds a bright silver penny, dances a jig, and spends it at market on a smooth-coated, black-spotted, curly-tailed pig, which she leads off in triumph by a string — and which then refuses absolutely to climb or creep through a stile. Coaxing, scolding and thumping all fail as the evening darkens and threatens rain, so she calls on a dog for help, and the chain of favours asked begins.
