The Death and Burial of Cock Robin
The old rhyme as a picture book, printed in London by William Darton and Son. Here lies Cock Robin, dead and cold, and this book his end will soon unfold: the Sparrow confesses to the bow and arrow, the Fly saw him die with his little eye, the Fish caught his blood in a dish, the Beetle will make the shroud with thread and needle, and the Owl will dig the grave with spade and showl. The Rook takes the service with his little book and the Lark says Amen like a clerk, while the Kite carries the body — provided it is not in the night. Every verse has its own plate.
